Done in a somewhat Frank Miller style but without animation this film is acceptable to watch, the bad part is that the story is very predictable, you feel like you know every scene just before it happens. The good part is that it still has some entertainment value and is watchable. _________________ No matter how many times you try...you can't clone the dirt off your screen. |

Just watched this one and have to agree on the predictable part. Anyone who's ever watched a movie in their life knows who the real bad guy is, and Mark Wahlberg only had two expressions for the whole movie. Scowl, and deeper scowl. It was a pretty wooden performance. That being said, his character was a glorious choice in casting next to the horribly mis-cast Mila Kunis. What she was doing in that role I have no idea. And neither did she.
Still, after saying all that it was still a watchable escape and you won't feel bad for having spent the time to see it. C+ overall |

Any comments on how it lives up to the video game? Reading the comments above, I can understand where some of it comes from after playing the game. Max was always scowling in the game - most likely why Mark was...
Also, there were some cut scenes in the game that were comic book/graphic novel like - probably where the Frank Millar comment comes from.
Sounds like they at least kept somewhat true to the games.

The movie is somewhat of an omage to the noir genre. The problems are:
1. Gun totting Mila Kunis
2. Picture post-production
3. Lack of the "Max Payne philosophy"
Milla Kunis, does look just fine, but I have a problem seing her kill 20 men like some kind of black widow. Picture post-production is nicely done, but it was over-used so it look kinda artificial. And where the hell are those wisecracks Max always said throught the game?
Max Payne the movie, except plot elements and main caracter has little to do with the game, and that could be the biggest mistake filmmakers could have made. |
