I was really looking forward to this one, since I love the aerial period pieces from the time, but I walked away pretty thinking they should have called this "The Dead Baron" instead of the Red Baron.
This was a largely lifeless movie, almost completely devoid of real drama, with a boring and small seeming character as the lead, and unconvincing romance with a woman (Lena Headey) who looks a dozen years older than he does, for all that she's attractive, and a variety of cliches that really had no place in the movie at all. Facts mixed with some artistic license and there you have it. The one redeeming feature is that there was some good aerial combat scenes, but that's almost totally offset by the fact that they didn't film a scene for his last flight, which is one of the most famous stories surrounding the man whose story this is, and which still is surrounded in controversy even today. Very disappointing. Maybe a C. |

I have to agree it was a big disappointment not getting to see his last dog fight
of his life. The movie was kind of slow and boring in places not quite what I was
expecting to see from a war movie and especially it being an aerial movie. _________________ Site Moderator
