When scanning a CD or DVD there's often a shadow around the edges of the scan. Here's how to get rid of it and other blemishes easy in Photoshop.

Step 1
Create a white disc template exactly the size of your scanned discs.
I scan at 300 DPI resulting in a 12cm (1417x1417) disc.
Make sure the corners are transparent.
Alternatively you can create a red, black or whatever colour template with white corners.
Save the template for re-use.

Step 2
Scan the disc at 300 DPI. If neccessary resize it to 1417x1417.

Step 3
Copy the template disc and paste it underneath your scanned disc layer. If there was only one layer, in the Layer Palette drag the newly pasted layer underneath the first layer that contains the scanned disc.

Step 4
With the Magic Wand Tool, make sure contigious is unchecked, select one of the corners.
Alle corners will be selected.

Step 5
Hold the shift key (or CTRL key whatever suits you) and select the layer containing the scanned disc. Now right click on the Layer Palette. Select Merge Layers. Note the selection you just made is still there.

Step 6
Press Delete. The selection will be deleted.
The result. Razor sharp, clean edges and corners.

Also comes in very handy if you're touching up parts of the label and accidently smudge the edges.
