|
|
Just ordered a new PC for my sister that ships with Vista Business edition - I am wondering whether to downgrade to XP home when I set it up?
What do you think?
System specs are :
AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core 3600+
1024Mb ram
250GB HD
Integrated Graphics card
Integrated sound card
DVD RW
Usage will be mainly photo editing, email, internet, word processing, rather than gaming etc.
I am slighty concerned about software compatability with vista, plus all the extra DRM stuff. |

Just personal, but I would go with the XP Home. With an integrated card and 1 gig of Ram that resource hog isn't going to let the machine work at it's best. _________________ For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble. |

I would DROP Vista like a HOT potato and go with XP Home or XP PRO because
Vista still has its problems and like you have already said it might have a few
software issues with any older software that you might have and want to run
on it. _________________ Site Moderator

Thats what i decided!
I actually phoned Dell and managed to get the same machine but with XP Pro installed - 25 mins on the phone, as you can't select XP on the internet!!
Beats having to format the disk when it arrives then installing XP and having to find all the drivers.
It seems crazy that vista is the only option these days, when it is still so badly supported. |

It's funny.. I dropped by the local computer store today to pick up some RAM for my second home PC. the guys there were talking about Vista, and I listened in. They were saying that on average there are 4 - 6 people coming in to either get their machine re-formatted and Vista removed, or to get a copy of XP so they can remove it themselves. If that is right then seems to me MS didn't do a very good job with this software. _________________ For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble. |

Five years in the waiting for the next Windows experience and so far it hasn't received a very good reception. I beginning to feel lucky my old desktop died when it did, I am very content with XP. _________________ No matter how many times you try...you can't clone the dirt off your screen. |

growing pains, us Mac users went through the software issues ourselves a few years back, but u r right let them work out the bugs first. |

Oh lucky me. I just got to be one of the guinea pigs at work. We do most of our programs in house and they have been gettings things set for Vista. Now they need a test group, and I got picked. The only good thing I see soming out of this is a new dual core laptop
Not sure if that is going to outweight he rest of the frustration
Wonder how long it will take them to realize that this isn't a good idea _________________ For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble. |
