With the advent of all the high tech for the home i find less and less reason to go to the theatres, with high prices. no pause, and a ridiculous assortment of expensive snacks. OK, so I still want to see some of the big action extravaganzas on the big screen (Die Hard et al) but for anything that doesn't rely on big effects and action I wait for the DVD.

How about you guys? has the new technology kept you out of the theatres? Or do you still go regularly?

Yep i agree, hardly ever go now, sometimes as a treat for the kids.
if you go as a family of four, and buy some snacks and a drink i think you can buy 2 or 3 new releases for the same money Shocked

mind you the real reson i don't go so often is because i have kids Laughing

I have to agree. The onlhy movies that I go see in the theater are the big ones, or ones that really catch my interest. I think the last one I went to the theater for was National Treause 2 and the new DieHard. Nothing coming up that catches my eye so will be a while again.

part of it is indeed the expensive concessions. Charging 350 for a bottle of soda that you can buy at your local mom and pop for 150 for instance.

Its just the wife and I so we can go more often than those with families. My wife enjoys going to the theatre, claims its a date for us.... I think she really goes for the popcorn. Laughing We always go to matinees to lower cost and our theatre chain has a deal where you buy a plastic drink cup at the beginning of each new year for $5 and they refill it all year long for $1, plus one free refill for popcorn, just save the bag for next time. Bottom line, it costs us about $15 to go to the theatre. I would say we see on average 20 films a year if there are 20 films worth seeing.

I don't go at all any more,I'd rather watch them at home.No crowds or people that can't seem to sit for 2hrs.You might get a better response/info if you added a poll?

I haven't been to the theater in several years something like 7 or 8 years ago is the
last time I've been in one with my girlfriend. We decided that it was just a waste of
money and that we'd just wait until the movie came out on DVD rent it and see it that
way for the price of going to see one movie plus snacks we could rent several movies
to watch for less money. We both smoke and this way we can fire up one without having
to go outside the theater and miss seeing part of the movie.

For the most part, why go when it costs as much as it does and people don't know how to act anymore and give the least amount of respect to be somewhat silent (keeping BABIES at home, turning your cell phone off, etc.)

But on the other hand, I do enjoy the movie going experience still enough to go to see films I REALLY want to see. The new Indie movie has sparked my interest. George Lucas (and his not the only one) thinks with the new digital age that the movie going will be a thing of the past. I guess we'll see! Although, I think I would truely miss it in the end. The whole group experience of seeing a great or classic film, I have great memories of seeing E.T. and other films as a kid. The movie theatre was such a treat! So it's difficult for me to completely let go of something so nostalgic. ^^

I gave up a long time ago. With people talking, kicking my seat and listening to cell phones ringing - it's not worth it.

I bought a front projector and have full surround sound and watch all movies in my "home theater". I can pause when ever I want, get some snacks that don't cost a fortune and crack a cold one if I really want Wink

I haven`t been to a theatre for 3 years now.

Lot`s of noise and everything is to expensive.
I rather sit on my couch with the misses or friends and watch at the bigscreen at home Smile
