Good, solid performances all the way around. This was a very strong movie, and you can't help but feel conflicted about whether you're rooting for Denzel's character or not. At times he's the good guy, at times he's the bad guy, but you never forget that once you take him outside of his family that he's never a nice guy. Russell Crowe was very good too, and really captured his characater well. Good criminals, bad criminals, good cops, bad cops. What else do you need? Very reminiscent of "The Untouchables" in a lot respects.

This was well written, well acted, and while there's violence in the movie it never seemed gratuitous to me, as so many of this type of movie tend to be. It's long, at a little under three hours, but well worth the watch.

dont get me wrong but have tried 3 times to watch this film an feel asleep on all three !!!! something due to the time i get up for work ..... 0430.. yes there r two of these times in a day !!!!
dont worry it took me 6 times to watch the departed

so far wot i have seen the film is very well acted !!!!
will let u no the full script when i get to watch all of it !

Yes it is good, anybody who lived through the 60's will see truth in it about New York at that time, but like any movie that is based on true story, Hollywood adds it's version, I have read both the books about Nicky Barnes and Frank Lucas and it comes down to whose side you believe more, but worth watching.
