Well, the movie backdrops and scenes were well done, if a little monochromatic, but the virtues of the movie pretty much stop there. I was expecting a lot more from this movie and it just simply failed to deliver.
Joaquin Phonenix, who I believe to be a talented actor, delivers a wooden performance alongside an equally bland Mark Wahlberg and an almost completely extraneous Eva Mendes. There was just no sense of tension or suspense throughout, some fairly silly dialogue, and a romance between Mendes and Phoenix that just seems like a pointless and irrelevant intrusion in the movie. Phoenix sleepwalks through the film as a sadly morose character, and because there's hardly any investment in the characters even the climax fails to deliver much in the way of a punch. Robert Duvall does what he does and delivers a creditable performance, but that's about it.
barely a timekiller. Very disappointing for this level of production. |

Yes, this was a lackluster movie, really didnt see what the hype was about, I was disgusted at it by the end, one of those movies that look good but really sucked. _________________ Ken |
