A movie following multiple story lines aimed at the political and social process surrounding the war, apathy and political activism. It calls for engagement of the people but doesn't really say how to do it. It makes a bunch of speeches for and against both sides of the equation, and actually really doesn't seem to line up along one side or the other, calling strictly on people to be more involved and aware, whatever direction it is that they take.
It's an engaging and thought provoking movie, but it does tend to run around in circles a bit and really doesn't seem to end up anywhere. Big cast, and they all seem to do well. You can judge whether Cruise was acting like the DC cardboard cutout his character might very well be or whether his acting makes him look like one. Streep and Redford are solid.
Bottom line, this movie is more like attending a class than it is about following a story, so if you don't buy into or don't have an interest in the process then you should probably skip this one. If the subject matter is of interest to you then you'll probably enjoy it. |

Being a veteran, I saw alot of truth in it, espically the politics of war, anybody who has spent a few years in military and those sitituions can see alot of truth in it the way the US goverment handled war, from the BS on capitol hill, to the real men and women on the ground doing the dirty work, and the bad info that goes along with war, just my 2 cents. _________________ Ken |
