This movie's about pride, aging, loneliness and the loss of relevance. Mickey Rourke really puts in an outstanding performance, and Marisei Tomei (she still looks great, and you get to see all of her) in parallel also does a good job.
The cinematography gives a real "feel" to the movie, and it really strikes home as the kind of story that could affect anyone. That being said, it's a slow moving movie that drags in a few spots, and for those of you who dislike open resolution endings where it's left to your imagination then this will not be a good movie for you. The highs and lows in this movie are fairly level, and most of the chapters never really get closed, so in order to enjoy the movie you're going to have to like watching the performances, otherwise you'll probably be really bored.
Bottom line, watch on a sunday afternoon when you're feeling mellow, enjoy the acting, and appreciate what you do see the first time, as you likely won't watch it again. |
