I honestly don't know what to say about this movie, as a recommendation to you guys. Is this a fun movie? No, it's not. It's a pretty dark movie overall, even though it has fun moments. Is it an action flick? No, it's not, although it has some fun action sequences.
Is this a satisfying movie? Well, for a superhero junkie this definitely is not going to fit your typical idea of what this type of movie should be. It's very cerebral, very dark, graphically violent in spots, and the characters are tortured and dysfunctional in some way, each and every one of them. I think that the ultimate resolution will please no one, although it makes a certain amount of sense. It doesn't leave you feeling happy at the end. it leaves you feeling somber. I suppose this might be one of those movies where the views of everyone else won't really serve to decide whether you enjoy it or not. There's lots to fill the mind, some to tickle the senses, and general disgruntlement at some of the aspects. At 3 hours it's a long flick too, and it does drag in spots, presumably to remain faithful to the graphic novel.
Well, I bet that doesn't help much. I liked it, but I didn't enjoy it as a fun watch, if that makes any sense at all. |

Thanks for your thoughts on this film. I was trying to decide whether I would go see this or not, it sounds as though I may wait to see it on video. Also, it sounds as though if its something you enjoyed at all you would want to see it more than once for reasons of accuracy and understanding. _________________ No matter how many times you try...you can't clone the dirt off your screen. |

tkboxer is exactly right. I started watching it again once it came out on video and you definitely catch lots of stuff the second time around that you didn't see the first time. Don't know if that changes my overall opinion, but it does lend itself to a greater appreciation of some of what's happening. |

I read the novel years ago. The movie is more or less faithful, but there were parts that I didn't like as much as others. |

The only problem is that the movie looks like a copy-pasted graphic novel. It's okay to stick to the original thing, but I think that somehow you have to reinvent it. |
