A pretty clever script and some snappy dialogue make for a fun story. The big problem with this movie is that Owen and Roberts have just about zero screen chemistry together. This really takes away from the story because the belief in that chemistry is the basic underlying premise of the whole thing. Without the belief in that the fabric of the flick falls apart and creates an enduring sense of awkwardness throughout the whole thing. It just seems cold at moments when it's not supposed to.

It's still worth watching, but it could have been so much more with the right pairing.

I hear what your saying about their relationship, it is somewhat similar to The Thomas Crown Affair. There is so much mistrust between the characters that it mask their real feelings. Thomas Crown did a better job in that respect. Still, Duplicity is a decent and entertaining watch.

What I real like about this film?
How easy it was to make a label for, took all of ten minutes. Laughing

In the Thomas Crown Affair (both versions) the main characters had heat and chemistry even with all the distrust. It added allure to their relationships. In Duplicity there's none of that. They're like two stones standing next to each other in the field. I didn't get that the coldness was based on their distrust for each other. It seemed more to me to be based on their complete disinterest in each other, all scripted dialogue to the contrary.

This seems to be kind of a common thing with Clive Owen films. I wonder if he's just off-putting as a co-star or whether it's just luck of the draw.
