This isn't a movie for everybody, but it should be. It's absolutely not what you'd expect from a Tarantino film. With a Tarantino film you expect random, prevalent and gory violence. To be sure there's violence in this movie, but unlike other Tarantino movies the violence isn't anywhere near as intense, or as graphic, and most importantly isn't the central turning point of the movie. Shocking? Maybe, but surprisingly the film turns on the dialogue, and the tension built through those dialogues. Unquestionably the best part of the film.

People have talked recently about Brad Pitt being snubbed in the Golden Globes for his part in this movie, but honestly Pitt isn't anywhere near being the central or most important or most influential character in this story, although he was very good. Christoph Waltz did get nominated, and with good reason. He's absolutely brilliant in this movie as Colonel Landa. He is at the center of every interesting, thought provoking and suspenseful dialogue in the film, and the film revolves around these dialogues.

OK, so it's absolutely a fantasy, and definitely unrealistic, especially as you close in at the end, but the irreverence and the comedy, mixed with the drama, gives it a very unique flavour, and is just a lot of fun. If you're looking for pure comedy, this is not the movie for you. If you're looking for pure action, this is not the movie for you. If you're looking for logical realism this is not the movie for you, but if you catch it at the right time and in the right mood you're going to really enjoy this flick, even at two and a half hours long. A- for me.
