This movie is a stark, dark, and unrelententingly gloomy film about the post apocalyptic world and the shrinking and dying mass of humanity within it. It's bleak, depressing and grey as the world is just one unrelenting series of bad things either happening or to look forward to, with very little hope for anything better.
Viggo Mortensen is the dad trying to get his son south and to prepare him to handle the world on his own. There's some pretty powerful visual images and some very good acting in this movie, but there's going to be a lot of people who don't like this one because of the tone. It is not a typical adventure set in the apocalypse, like a Mad Max movie, and if that's what you're looking for then forget about it. I could really admire some of the aspects, and the acting, and you definitely get a bigger emotional sense of the probable realism of the situation, but when it comes right down to it this is just not an enjoyable movie to watch. It's seriously depressing and sad. I'll give it an A for artistry and a D for entertainment value. |
