Well, just for the heck of it. Razz I'm sure most of you are waiting on this because of the HD-DVD vs Blue-Ray. It's pretty darn exspensive at the moment:

$900 - $1200 for the writers.

Guess they only have single layer (25 gb). One disc will cost you $23.99.

I think it would be wise to wait. Laughing

Yep I'll be waiting a loooooooong time before I move onto the next generation of burners
I just can not justify the cost that they are now. When they come down to todays burner
prices or close to what a DVD burner costs now and the prices of the disc come down to
or around what a DVD disc cost now I might reconsider buying one of them but not until then. Wink

i'd only buy a burner that could do both versions of the HD dvds. it will be interesting to see how the battle btwn the two factions of hd dvds winds up.

I don't even have a duel layer burner yet! The media for that is a little too much for my liking. I have a Toshiba 4x burner and I'm fine with it. Very Happy

I have read several articles that say that the picture isn't much better than what the current format delivers. That it may not really be worth it to upgrade.

Just because the industry comes out with a new format doesn't guarantee that the consumer will embrace it. A prime example is the 8 Track, it never really caught on.

An 8 ... WHAT!? ... never heard of IT! jk. Razz

What's funny to think about, is that some kids growing up won't know what VHS was. They'll be like, "what the heck is that thing!?" "You had to use a tracking feature, eh, why!?" Ah, I'm an 80s nostalgia fan, but VHS isn't something I'll miss. What else is funny to think about ... vinyl is still going pretty strong amongst DJs, spinning at clubs and such.

I guess laserdisc could also be considered a media that just never quite took off.

i just pulled my receipt from my first DVD media purchase.

Sept 22, 2003 (supermediastore)

I paid $37.67 for 25 dvds...at 2.4X. Smile

so in 3 years, the cost has gone down appx 80%.

and speaking of old 80's technology..i remember my dad having a DISC machine....the outside looked like an LP size encasement...inside, the disc looked like a wafer. you would put the case in, pull the switch down, then pull the casement out...leaving the wafer part in the machine. the first movie i watched on that was CLASH OF THE TITANS. Smile
