Lesson 5: Make Shortcuts/Flatten Image to a New Layer

Create your own shortcut keys.


In this example I will show you how to make a shortcut key to the Gaussian Blur filter. This will work with just about any filter.

Open any Image
Click the Action palette pop down menu button.
Choose New Action.
Give it a name, something like Gaussian Blur Shortcut.
From the Function Key drop down arrow, select a F-key. I chose F-9.
Press the Record button.
Click on Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur and then click OK.
On your Actions palette click the Stop Recording icon (bottom left on the Actions palette).
On your Actions palette click in the left column to enter a check mark to "Toggle" your newly named action, on.

Now everytime you click on the F-9 key your Gaussian Blur dialog box will appear.





Flatten an image to a new layer without deleting all your layers:

Create a new layer.
Hold down the Alt and Ctrl keys.
Click on Merge Visible from the Layer palette pop down menu.
Your new layer will have a flattened image and your other layers will remain intact.
