hi guys, I recently aquired a windows xp fully integrated with latest sp2 disc, can I install over my current windows xp without formatting and losing my c.drive, progs etc.so that I am up to date with microsoft stuff?? (ya know what I mean) _________________ I USED TO BE INDECISIVE, BUT NOW I,M NOT TO SURE.... |

I'm no expert here but I would think if your XP is still running good that it would be safer and easier to download SP2 from Microsoft to update the OS.
I think if you try to do a install over from that disc you got you could see some issues with the registry versus your installed programs. I had to install SP2 from a download on my old pc and although it took hours to install itself, it did work out well in the end, everything worked fine. _________________ No matter how many times you try...you can't clone the dirt off your screen. |

I agree with boxer. I think the best way to do is just pull in from Microsift via the update page. It should have done that already though since that was one of the critical updates. You can do an install over the old, but anytime I dd that I wound up with problems. Of course I might not have done it right either _________________ For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble. |

hi ther gb dont know if this helps but if you plan to install windows again you have to delete the old partiton which you will lose every thing so back it up first but if you just want to install sp2 just use the disc if you have one or go to window update page and grab it from there and just install it does take a wile hope it helps gb |
