This miniseries remake has some pretty strong departures from the original, leaving only the basic pretext behind. Whereas the original was a thinking man's show and concept, on a variety of social and political issues, the remake seems to focus more on the internal mystery surrounding the plot, the answer to which is fairly obvious somewhere between halfway and two thirds of the way through. The end messages are far less subtle and open than in the original as well.

The modern interpretation will make it easier to watch for a lot of people, and if you take it on its own merits it's a reasonable but not outstanding watch. It's a far cry from the original though, and if you're trying to decide which one to pick then I highly recommend that you go and select the superlative 60's version with McGoohan and company, which although dated withstands the test of time pretty well.
