a period movie detailing an incident that took place during japan's occupation of china in the city of nanking. a hired mortician (christian bale) is thrust into being responsible for the safety of 12 school girls, 12 prostitutes and an alter boy. he poses as a the parish priest to try and save the girls and women from the savagery (sp) of war. ultimately, the women of the brothel and the alter boy rise up and sacrifice themselves so that the mortician and the young girls can escape the city.
movie of the year for me. im not usually a bale fan, but he was good in this one. this movie was china's most expensive movie to produce (94 million) and is set up for an oscar as best foreign film. GRADE: A-

Not available yet on Netflix but have it "saved" in my account.
Thanks, sounds like a quality film. _________________ No matter how many times you try...you can't clone the dirt off your screen. |
