Why would software work w/a barcode scanner w/a usb connection but not with one with a serial connection? The two barcode scanners I am referring to are the exact same model except for the connection type(USB vs. Serial). I need to know before I invest another $300.00 to replace them.

My best guess is the software does not recognize or support serial port connectivity therefore the scanner will not transfer data through the serial port. The software does support USB connectivity therefore it transfers data and works.
