Resizing Spine

I need to resize a spine that's currently for a 3 disc case down to a regular size(single disc case). I was just wondering if any of you PS guys would be able to help. Thanx in advance!!

I think that standard spine widths are 140 pixels at 300dpi

you should be able to select the spine and then use the free transform to scrunch it down if that is all that you are after.

If you want to maintiain the same aspect ratio, that get's a little more difficult.

I don't know if this will work for you, but it is simple. What I do is select the spine with the outline tool, then transform, not free transform, holding down the shift key to maintain aspect ratio. You have to use the corner handles to make this work. This makes the spine too short, so I center the spine layer just made, and make a fill layer the size you want for the spine (select using outline tool, again,) using the dropper tool to make the color match or blend with the transformed layer. Move the fill layer down below the transformed layer to see your spine again. Now, if you want to move parts of the spine art up or down, since it's mashed to the middle, use copy and paste. Then cut from the original. I don't know if cutting alone makes it available to paste. I'll have to check that out. Does that make any sense to anybody? If there's a better way, I'd love to learn it. I figured this out on my own.

I'm using CS with the dummies book for 7. Hubby got PS7 it for me when the company I worked for almost 26 years downsized me. He also bought my iMac, digital camera and iPod all on the same day. I really should keep him, don't you think? Anyway, I haven't learned enough, or been inspired enough, to make a cover from scratch, but I can modify for my own use all day long.
